The Mission of Touro University Osteopathic Medicine Program is to prepare students to become outstanding osteopathic physicians who uphold the values, philosophy and practice of osteopathic medicine and who are committed to primary care and the holistic approach to the patient. The program advances the profession and serves its students and society through innovative pre-doctoral and post-doctoral education, research, community service, and multidisciplinary and osteopathic clinical services.

Getting Ready For Classes

Getting Ready

All orientation events are expected to take place in person on the TUC campus and are mandatory. Academic learning events are presented in multiple formats. These include in-person, large and small group interactive mandatory events on campus, non-mandatory events on campus that are also simultaneously offered via synchronous Zoom and asynchronous recordings, and pre-recorded directed study events. The academic calendar will reflect events Monday-Thursday from 8a-5p and Fridays 8am-3p, with a break for lunch daily. Please note that your schedule may vary significantly due to campus events, federal or Jewish holidays, or any number of other variables. It is critical to remember to check your online schedule daily. Your preclinical course schedules will be available soon.

Student Handbook and Professionalism

Please take a moment to review the 2025–2026 COM Student Handbook here. Our updated 2026-2027 Handbook will be released in July, and you will be instructed to complete an attestation once it becomes available.

The attestation will be due by August 7, 2026, confirming that you have received, read, and agree to comply with the policies outlined. Completing this attestation is both a professional responsibility and a requirement.

Books:

You can find the booklist for fall and spring courses, link will be available in June. You should plan to have your fall books by start of classes and expect that faculty will assign readings and will test from the required  materials early the semester. For some of the books, on-line sources are available and are noted. Also, while you may receive suggestions about other books  that students find useful (e.g., board review books), these do not substitute for primary texts that faculty require.

Dress Code Attire:

Dress code attire for orientation is business casual on Thursday, July 30th, 2026, and Friday, July 31st, 2026.

You will be expected to have the appropriate Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM), Doctoring, and Anatomy laboratory attire for your labs. The COM's dress code policies for the 25-26 academic year are available for review here. Updates will be addressed during orientation.

Attendance Policy:

Please refer to the TUCOM Attendance policy here. Only absences complying with the Attendance policy may be excused. All absences for mandatory learning events require filling out the online Absence Notification Form here.

Preliminary Assignment:

The Osteopathic Principles and Practice 1 course has a preliminary reading assignment that will be made available to those students who want to get a head start. You are not required to start this early; it is simply being offered to those who want to get a jump on the semester.
