As we strive to reduce health disparities in an increasingly diverse population cultural humility is a critical to address institutional inequities and lay the foundation for health equity. Cultural humility moves beyond cultural competence to include the three principles: 1. This is a life long process that requires critical self reflection as our lives and our patients lives are ever changing, 2. We must be humble and aware of our own assumptions and biases regarding our patients beliefs and values, and 3. We must be active in redressing the power imbalance inherent to the healthcare provider-patient relationship. The goal of this microcredential is to understand the importance of cultural humility in reducing health disparities with a focus on self discovery.
